To Frank Buckles,106 years old, of Charles Town, West Virginia the last, living veteran of World War I according to the Veterans Affairs Department. All of our nation's veterans, whose willingness to sacrifice, to fight and even to die for our country's freedoms, deserve our praise and our thanks. In recognition of our nation's soldiers contribution to the American way of life, there will be Veteran's Day celebrations around the U.S. on Wednesday, November 11th, and the Veterans Affairs Administration and the Library of Congress have launched the Veterans History Project, a nationwide effort to record the stories of our nation's veterans.

To HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, for poor management of the H1N1 vaccine from start to finish. The recent news that, in New York City, HHS allowed H1N1 virus to be distributed to non-essential medical priorities is yet another example of the overall incompetence of the HHS management. Americans have, for the most part, graciously, accepted that, even after months of fear mongering and hype, HHS has managed the vaccine development process so badly that now, as flu season approaches, the nation is not ready. Now, we discover that essential medical personnel, at-risk children, and expectant mothers were ignored by HHS in favor of a privileged few on Wall Street in receiving the vaccinations.
This is an abomination for which HHS should be held accountable. HHS and Secretary Sibelius have inadvertently given Americans a glimpse of the many executions risks and inability of the government to run complex programs. Worse yet, the sad spectacle of Americans forced into long lines to receive vaccinations that have been doled out inefficiently by a bureaucracy, numb to the havoc, is yet another, awful glimpse into what might lie ahead with government controlled healthcare.
