- CACI International Inc, announced Monday that it has acquired cyber security company System-Ware Inc. for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition comes as the federal government steps up its focus on cyber security. System-Ware's clientele includes the Department of Defense, other federal agencies and members of the intelligence community. The company, based in Camarillo, Calif., makes systems that help users monitor and detect cyber security and physical security problems. More than half of the company's employees hold Secret-level security clearances and above.
- The Navy becomes the third branch of the U.S. military to establish an organization to oversee its cyber-security activities and protect against attack. Vice Admiral Bernard J. McCullough is in charge of the new command, which also will organize and direct the Navy's cryptologic operations worldwide. Admiral McCullough is also in charge of the 10th Fleet which has been recommissioned to work in tandem with the U.S. Fleet Cyber Command. Both are headquartered at Fort Meade in Maryland, which is also the home of the Naval Network Warfare Command. Maryland officials are positioning their state as a cybersecurity "epicenter" .
- The program that brought you Trusted Internet Connections could receive another $3.6 billion dollars to secure federal systems in 2011. GovInfoSecurity.com reports that's the figure included in President Obama's 2011 budget request. Many of the details are classified. But the administration will soon release a public version as part of the White House transparency push.
