One of the reasons agencies are looking at moving to the cloud is for the energy savings. So it seems appropriate that one of the agencies looking hard at a couple options for cloud computing is the Energy Department.
William Lay is the Associate Chief Information Officer for IT Support Services at the Energy Department. He says the agency is looking at a two-pronged approach to moving to the cloud - a "private cloud" and a "public cloud" - and on the program, he explains the difference.
He also offers some details about how the agency is planning for Continuity of Operations in the cloud, and outlines the challenges the department is dealing with.
