The Justice Department has kicked off the recompete for its main technology support services contract and wants to see how small businesses can play a larger role under the acquisition vehicle.
DoJ issued the draft request for proposals late last month to obtain industry comment on its Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) IV contract.
The fourth iteration of this task order type contract would include not just IT support services, but also hardware, software, communications technology and other equipment as required, Justice states in the draft RFP.
"The purpose of this request for information is twofold: first, to determine the acquisition strategy regarding small business participation, and second, to get industry comments on the draft statement of work," Justice states.
"Through this synopsis, the DOJ is requesting the capabilities and past performance of small business contractors interested in providing these services across DoJ programs."
Justice estimates will award 10-to-15 vendors a spot on the new contract.
Justice awarded the current contract to 12 vendors across 32 different support areas in 2004.
Market research firm Input estimates the contract would have a ceiling of about $1 billion.
Responses are due by Nov. 17.
