Nov. 5, 2009 - Ronnie Levine used to call herself the chief help desk officer.

For the first few of her six years, chief information officer of the Bureau of Land Management in the Interior Department spent most of her time resolving computer and network issues.

But things are different now. Levine has moved out of the operational area and into the strictly the strategic functions of the BLM.

Levine says her office will issue a new IT strategic plan for BLM in the coming months. It will be the first time the plan has been updated in five years.

Among her priorities, Levine says BLM wants to do more collaboration through Web 2.0 tools, and innovation in the way the agency uses technology from cloud computing to green IT to thin clients.

BLM is hosting an innovation contest through social networks where employees can submit ideas on how to improve the agency's services.

Levine says while details still are being determined, BLM will use blogs, Webinars and other technologies.
