The federal government has two new technology leaders.

The Senate last night confirmed Aneesh Chopra to be the federal chief technology officer and Priscilla Guthrie to be the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's chief information officer.

Chopra, who received little attention during his nomination hearing earlier this week, plans to use innovative technologies to address complex problems. Chopra also will be the associate director for technology in the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Guthrie, who takes over for retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Dale Meyerrose, faces one of newest-and in many ways youngest--workforces as more than 60 percent of the employees came to the intelligence community since 2001. Guthrie must further information sharing initiatives through the use of social networking tools.

The Senate also confirmed Randolph Babbitt to be the administrator of the FAA, John Pocari to be the deputy secretary of Transportation and Peter Rogoff to lead the Federal Transit Administration.

Babbitt faced the most pressure during his nomination hearing earlier this week. Among his biggest priorities is making sure the FAA further implements the Next Generation Air Traffic Control system.

The Senate also approved Seth Harris to be Deputy Secretary of Labor.
