  • One of the big government contractors has a new hire. Harris Corporation named Mike Deloney as vice president and general manager of Defense Department Programs for its IT services business. He’ll report to president of Harris IT Services John Heller. Deloney is an industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience both at the Air Force and industry. Deloney has been working as vice president of Harris IT Services’ Air Force Programs since he joined the company in 2009. He succeeds Heller in that job. According to a company announcement, Deloney will now be responsible for the company’s entire DOD business area that includes the Air Force, Army and Navy.
  • You may remember that memo from Secretary Robert Gates in July that complained the Department had – as he put it – “far too many people talking to the media outside of channels.” He was concerned about information being unauthorized, taken out of context, or sometimes just being wrong. Well the Pentagon is following up on that. All contacts between the Department of Defense and the media are being monitored more closely. Secrecy News reports, Dod is increasing its efforts to ensure all contacts are approved by public affairs officials from within the Department. Doug Wilson is the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. He’s sent out a memo asking the heads of the Military Services, the Joint Staff and the Combatant Commands to remind all workers they’ve got to work more closely and effectively with their public affairs offices. As he put it in a recent memo, the effort is to “ensure full situational awareness.”
