IG Says Justice Networks Remain Vulnerable

The report says the department\'s information technology security lacks the necessary processes.

The Justice Department’s high scores on cybersecurity, doesn’t mean they are very secure. The Justices’ Inspector General reported today that the department’s information technology security lacks the necessary processes to mitigate vulnerabilities.

The report says Justice has inadequate access controls and outdated security patches that require immediate attention.

Justice also lacks the ability to track whether security vulnerabilities have been fixed or not.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee gave Justice an A+ on its Federal Information Security Management Act, or FISMA, report card in May.

The IG makes four recommendations, including establishing a process to remediate vulnerabilities found in its monthly scan, and conducting an inventory of all its devices connected to the network to ensure the scans are reaching everything.
