Congressional auditors have prepared a highly critical report that questions the fundamentals of a roughly $160 billion Army modernization program.

The Future Combat Systems (FCS) program is led by Boeing and Science Applications International Corp (SAIC). Its supposed to tie together a family of advanced ground and air vehicles, robots, indirect fire weapons and sensors.

InsideDefense.com reports the Government Accountability Office questions the program, from its maturity level to its budget.

Boeing, SAIC, GAO and the Army had no immediate comment on the report.

The criticism comes at a time when the Army is fighting for funds in the budget proposed by President Barack Obama.
