Department of Homeland Security

Rick Gunderson Acting Chief Procurement Officer June 11, 2009

This week, we talk with Rick Gunderson, Acting Chief Procurement Officer, Department of Homeland Security.

Gunderson covers the challenges Homeland Security faces in staffing its procurement workforce. The President has made no secret of his intent to reform federal procurement, and Homeland Security has big plans for hiring a new cadre of contracting professionals.

We also discuss planned changes for Homeland Security’s procurement arm. 2009 will be a busy year for the Procurement Office, and Mr. Gunderson gives us a preview of what’s on tap, including a new set of employees focused on the technical side of acquisition (e.g., engineering).
