Army continues to grow contracting workforce

The Pentagon has already started scaling back on spending in order to meet the goals outlined by Defense Secretary Robert Gates this week.

In reaction, the Army acquisition work force is going on a hiring spree. Or, at least, renewing its effort to get an army of savvy, seasoned buyers in place so the branch becomes a smarter buyer.

Defense News reports, the Army has been growing its military contracting work force by about 600 percent and its civilian contracting work force by 25 percent. In the last few years, the Army has hired and trained more than 800 entry-level contracting folks.
