VA uses social media to reach vets in remote areas

The White House blog reports that the VA is taking advantage of social media to reach veterans.

Facebook, Twitter and other social networking tools are allowing the Department of Veterans Affairs to reach veterans across the country — especially those who live in rural areas, according to the White House blog.

In the past, these vets would have to make the trek to a VA facility to get information, submit paperwork or receive care.

The VA now provides both tele0medicine to monitor medical conditions and online mental health counseling via chat rooms.

And don’t think it’s just the younger generations of fets who are using these tools. The VA says that the Vietnam War-era vets are the fastest-growing group using these online tools.
