Despite predictions that paper documents will one day go the way of the dodo, government still relies on the printed word and it is up to the GPO to make sure critical documents get into the right hands. Only, increasingly, federal workers are demanding that same information be available in a digital format. Wash says the focus at GPO has been to create an enterprise architecture that can support both, while at the same time accommodate the rapid evolution of technology. What makes the task even more important is the other part of GPO’s mission — to preserve documents, such as the Federalist Papers, for perpetuity. Wash says the result of this focus is FDsys, the Future Digital Content System, which should start to roll out this year. He also talks about how GPO used a blog to help make it all a reality.
