The use of commercial software and handheld wireless devices are the next big technologies for the Army.

And they and other technologies that will impact the Army work because of the Internet. Of all the technologies that have changed the way the Army does its work, the Internet stands out the most to Vern Bettencourt, the Army’s deputy chief information officer.

Bettencourt retired June. 4 after more than 40 years in the public sector.

He says the biggest challenge with all the new technologies that are coming is the management of all the data–both for the military and for its contractors.
