The federal agency in charge of worker safety is not protecting whistleblowers from employer retaliation, ProPublica reports.

A report from the Government Accountability Office says OSHA’s whistleblower program does not give investigators of whistleblower cases enough skills and resources to do their jobs.

In 2002, the Department of Labor upheld only 2 percent of whistleblower claims, or 25 out of more than 1,000 claims, according to The Center for Public Integrity.
