Defense contractors go all-in for incumbents

In races in both the House and Senate, Democratic incumbents have found loyal supporters — and big donors — in defense contractors, Politico reports.

The defense industry has poured money into the campaigns of members of the Armed Services committee and Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.

Freshman Virginia Rep. Glenn Nye received less than $10,000 in defense industry donations in 2008. Less than two years later, after serving on the House Armed Services Committee, Nye’s defense donations increased ten-fold.

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton, has been on Capitol Hill for 33 years and “has rarely faced a tough contest.”
