The new Mark Center building, set to house thousands of defense workers, could be highly vulnerable to a truck bomb attack.
A Pentagon blast study, obtained by Time magazine, paints a grim picture of what would happen if an explosion the size of the Oklahoma City bombing detonated next to the office towers.
Several of the studies showed the Mark Center could mostly be wiped out. The scenarios showed wide swaths of red zones indicating many serious injuries and fatalities.
The studies were leaked to Time, reportedly after the Pentagon made no response to the study’s warnings.
Virginia Rep. Jim Moran is now requesting a meeting with DoD to discuss the report. Meanwhile, 6,400 defense workers in Alexandria are slated to move into the Mark Center as part of BRAC this year.
