This morning’s federal news as heard on WFED:

Key Democrats on the House Armed Services committee are asking the Pentagon to halt all public-private job competitions. Government Executive reports that Missouri Representative Ike Skelton and Texas Representative Solomon Ortiz have sent their request to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. They say the pause is needed so the White House can review the program.

The 2010 budget resolution is making headway in Congress. Government Executive reports the full Senate will begin debate this morning at 11. A final vote could come Thursday or Friday. The House is also working on its version. No word on when a final vote in the House could happen.

Federal agencies have a new list of 59 vendors to choose from under the $50 billion dollar government-wide Alliant IT contract. The General services administration released the names of those companies Friday. The contract has a five-year base with one five-year renewal option. Agencies can start using the contract in a few weeks, once GSA gives vendors a notice to proceed.
