This morning’s federal news as heard on WFED:

The Pentagon is considering a reduction of outsourcing. Defense officials have told the House Budget committee the practice is more expensive than using government workers. GovExec reports the news comes on the heels of a White House announcement on plans to reign in the defense budget.

Your more likely to get a pat down at the airport gate. The Transportation Security Administration is beefing up gate searches. Security screeners are looking for passengers displaying suspicious behavior. TSA says the goal is an added layer of safety.

Talk about job-loyalty: Indiannapolis residents are using the word “hero” to describe a mail carrier who rescued an 80-year old woman from a burning house. FederalTimes reports Jackie Jefferson heard a smoke detector blaring and then rushed in, saving the wheel-chair-bound woman. Afterwards, she continued her mail route. By the time firefighters arrived, she was gone. Jefferson says she acted on instinct.
