This morning’s federal news as heard on WFED:

Bearing Point is selling most of its public sector business unit to Deloitte. The move is part of a reorganization plan. Bearing point will get about $350 million dollars for the sale. The federal contractor filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in February.

Employees at the IRS abusing government-owned calling cards. (pdf) That finding comes from the agency’s Inspector General. The report says that in one case an employee spent $59,000 dollars on unauthorized calls overseas. The inspector general is calling on IRS managers to better control how the cards are used.

The White House has picked a former Clinton official to help federal agencies with their stimulus efforts. Edward DeSeve will serve as a special advisor to the president and vice president. White House officials say his job will focus on interagency initiatives under the Recovery Act. DeSeve comes from the Fels Insitute for Government at the University of Pennsylvania. Under President Clinton, he was deputy director for management at the Office of Managment and Budget.

Hackers break into computers at Florida Senator Bill Nelson’s Office. Nelson says the attacks most likely came from China, but that no classified information was breached. Nelson is co-sponsoring a bill to expand the cybersecurity workforce.
