A lot of people make a New Year’s resolution to give back, “and what better way to do that then through the CFC campaign,” said Linda Washington.

She’s an Assistant Transportation Secretary, but she’s also the Chairperson for the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area.

Washington told Federal News Radio the usual January first deadline for donating to the yearly campaign has been extended until January 15th.

Between now and then, expect to see events at your agency to raise awareness of the CFC. Washington said, for example, at the FAA there will be a Wii event, a Pink Cadillac will invite DOT workers to get on the “Freeway of Love”, and pep rallies are scheduled.

So far, according to the web site, Federal employees in the national capital area have donated $54 million dollars to the effort, but every little bit helps.

Washington said there are more than 4,000 charities to choose from and employees can choose to do pledging online, via credit card and e-check, and on a month-by-month basis.

Using e-giving tools provided on the site means the entire process can take much less time than most of us will need to spend on a treadmill fulfilling another New Year’s resolution: sweating off those holiday pounds.

Washington suggested employees consider donating the (approximate) two-percent raise hitting Federal paychecks this month, saying “You don’t miss it as much.”
