  • Some of the nation’s biggest airports are hiring private security firms to replace the Transportation Security Administration. The Washington Post reports the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which governs Dulles International and Reagan National airports, is considering the switch. Public opinion turned against TSA amidst the so-called naked body scans and allegations of aggressive pat downs.
  • The Wikileaks dump reveals a flaw in the State Department database called Net-Centric Diplomacy, which lacked features to detect unauthorized downloading. The Washington Post reports the system was supposed to make it easier for cables to flow throughout federal government. But when launched in 2006, Net-Centric was tied into the Defense Department system, and soon nearly half a million government employees and contractors with security clearances could access the information. A problem discovered later was that sensitive cable were dumped “willy-nilly” into the database, whether they should be there or not, The Post reports.
  • The Centers for Disease Control misplaced $8 million worth of equipment in 2007, found the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services. The 15 unaccounted for items included a computer and video equipment, Fox News reports.
  • The new Twitter interface might not be working for agencies that only use Internet Explorer 7 or 8. The GovTwit blog reports that Twitter is working with to get the issue resolved.
