House kills F-35 Alternative Engine funding

The second F-35 engine was to be built by General Electric and Rolls Royce as an alternative in case the primary engine built by Pratt & Whitney failed.

The second engine for the F-35 fighter plane is one step closer to dead. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has been trying to kill the alternative engine for years. The House voted to kill its funding and take money for the extra engine out of the CR. It would have been built by General Electric and Rolls Royce.
