The Defense Department has set March 4 as the final deadline to apply for Stop Loss payments. The payments are available to people who had their military service involuntarily extended between September 11 2001 and September 30, 2009. Members whose retirement was postponed are also eligible. Stop Loss pays $500 per month of extended service. DOD is accepting both mail-in and online applications. Survivors of those killed in action are also eligible for Stop Loss payments.
