Great Comeback award winner blazes trail

Road bends, not ends, for post-ostomy soldier.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bob Cuyler runs a half-marathon every single week. That’s more than thirteen miles, at one time, every seven days. That might not sound like a lot to avid runners, but Cuyler is making the runs while he is deployed in Afghanistan. He wants to raise awareness of the United Ostomy Association of America Veterans Outreach Program, which helps military veterans live with their condition. Cuyler himself lost his colon in 2007 which would normally mean being discharged. But he fought the system, is now serving as the 10th Mountain Division chief of staff in Regional Command-South, and wants to show others that they don’t have to give up after surgery. Cuyler received the Tony Snow Public Service Award from the Great Comebacks program while on deployment to Iraq.
