UnitedHealth Group is suing over the loss of a $23 billion military contract. The group lost its appeal to hold onto a huge five-year contract with Tricare South. That contract was awarded to Humana Health Care. Washington Business Journal reports the deal has bounced back and forth between United Health and Humana for years. UnitedHealth won the contract from Humana in July 2009. Humana protested to the Government Accountability Office and was re-awarded the contract this February. UnitedHealth then filed a protest, but it was denied. The contract for the South Region covers three million military members and their families in eleven southern states.
