Marines upgrading IT hardware

The Marine Corps will buy 400,000 new computers worth up to $880 million. NextGov reports, the big order will also include some commercial and ruggedized tablets. The computers will be split between notebooks and desktop PCs. The new hardware will be used in the field and at fixed locations, connected to the Navy’s Next Generation Network. For security, the Marines will have bluetooth wireless connectivity left off. The service plans to launch a five-year procurement called the Marine Corps Common Hardware Suite. Bids are due July 22.
