Army improves Arlington National Cemetery management

The Army is reporting progress in cleaning up management of Arlington National Cemetery, according to the Defense Department.

The cemetery was hit last year by a scandal revealing misidentified graves and a dysfunctional leadership team.

Army Secretary John McHugh told lawmakers the new team has made major progress in reconciling paper records with physical inspections of graves. He said a partnership with the VA has helped the Army modernize its approach to managing the cemetery.

The secretary also said the new managers have improved contract compliance and IT systems.
