US awards contract for Guantanamo intrustion-detection system

The U.S. is beefing up security at the Guantanamo war crimes court as it prepares for another round of tribunals.

Advantor Systems, a Florida-based contractor, won the defense contract to install and maintain an intrusion-detection system at the high-security court in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The Pentagon said it skipped open bidding for the 422,000 dollar contract in part because it needs to be done quickly to avoid delaying the war crimes tribunals.

The U.S. has filed charges against six Guantanamo prisoners, including five accused of orchestrating the 9/11 attack. No trial date is set.
