Air Force eyes manpower cuts — even in its musical bands

The Air Force is right-sizing everything down to its musical bands as it tries to meet force reduction goals of its 2013 budget.

Will cuts come in the brass or woodwind sections? The Air Force is right-sizing everything down to its musical bands as it tries to meet force reduction goals of its 2013 budget. Chief of Staff General Norton Schwartz said a communications group and several air control squadrons will also be shuttered. The Air Force must get its manpower down to 501,000. That requires cuts of 3,900 regular duty billets and 6,000 Air National Guard and Reserve positions. It already announced plans to retire 227 aircraft.
