  • This year’s Open Season is the busiest on record, according to the Office of Personnel Management. There have been more than double the average transactions processed, with more than 270,000. An OPM spokesman tells Federal News Radio the new self-plus-one option has generated enormous interest.
  • After two VA employees were accused of manipulating the hiring system to receive unwarranted pay raises, they were demoted and moved to different offices. Now USA Today reports they could be given even more money because their new positions involved involuntary cross-country moves, making them eligible for relocation reimbursements. The already incensed House Veterans Affairs Committee will be holding a hearing Dec. 9 on problems with employee accountability.
  • Defense Secretary Ash Carter was busy on Thanksgiving. He spent the day calling several service members taking part in operations around the world, to wish them a happy Thanksgiving and to express his appreciation for the troops who are away from home for the holidays.
