Healthcare IT and clinical testing

Tony Varano, founder and CEO of DSG, joins host John Gilroy to discuss how to improve healthcare data collection. March 12, 2013

March 12, 2013 — Cost of healthcare is a headline story for many publications today.

Many will argue that improving healthcare IT will reduce the cost that Americans pay.

Both of these aspects of the federal government come together when you consider clinical testing.

Clinical testing is, of course, the way new drugs are scientifically tested over a long period of time to assure users that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Today, these tests must comply with regulation from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Today’s guest is Tony Varano, the founder and CEO of a company called DSG.

His company has spent the past twenty years working with companies to help them comply with the rigorous processes that the FDA has for vetting medicine.

They have been at 25,000 sites, participated in 1,000 clinical trials, worked with 400 companies in over 90 countries.

During the interview, Varano discusses best practices for collecting data and also gives some suggestions for making improvements in the process.
