May 20, 2014 — Today’s guests are Ken Parent, CEO, and Manny Mencia, president, of ByteGrid.

Many listeners have heard of moving to the cloud, few have asked some of the nuts and bolts of that process.

ByteGrid is a company who actually owns data centers and develops relationships with companies who provide the services normally associated with cloud computing.

In other words, if your agency has a contract on a cloud project with a large systems integration like Lockheed Martin, then they may choose a data center provider like ByteGrid.

The interview gave a background on Bytegrid and two aspects stood out.

First, ByteGrid has a large, secure facility in Silver Spring, Maryland. This breaks the mold of everything be located west of Washington, D.C. in places like Ashburn.

Secondly, if you are doing your due diligence you can actually make an appointment and do “walk through” of a secure data center.

During the interview, Mencia talked about the seven layers of security for the datacenter.

If you are like Harry Truman and your motto is “Show me,” then you can take a physical tour and actually see how your data is being protected.

The discussion includes aspects of power consumption, tier levels, and redundancy.
