VA Hires SPAWAR; Congress Takes a Look

It’s not news when Federal agencies hire contractors to fill the gaps in their knowledge bases, especially on IT projects. But it does draw attention – especially from Capitol Hill – when one agency hires another agency. That’s when happened when the Department of Veterans Affairs hired the Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, known as SPAWAR, to help the VA develop computer systems to handle the influx of claims from the new GI Bill. The House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity wanted a closer look last week, and they called on Maureen Regan of the VA’s Inspector General’s office; Capt. Mark Krause of SPAWAR; and VA CIO Roger Baker.
