The drive toward openness and transparency is changing the way IT executives do their jobs - and increasing demands on IT people at all levels.

The Obama Administration’s drive toward openness and transparency is making IT executives at the agencies crank up the volume of data output. Initiatives like Green IT and the Smart Grid are changing the way data is managed in the environmental and energy realm. Lisa Schlosser, Director of the Office of Information Collection at the Environmental Protection Agency, hosted a conversation about data management at AFCEA Bethesda’s “Energy and the Environment IT Day” recently. Ms. Schlosser’s guests included Todd Debolt, Director of the Project Management Office in the Office of Water at the Environmental Protection Agency; Adrian Gardner, Chief Information Officer at the National Weather Service and former Deputy Associate CIO at the Energy Department; Carl Statton, Deputy CIO at the Energy Department and former CIO at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and Keith Thurston, Assistant to the Deputy Associate Administrator in the Office of Information Technology at the General Services Administration.
