Data, data, everywhere – A contest to sift through it all

Teri Elniski of EMC\'s Data computing products division explains how you can deal with all that information in your databases.

Maybe you feel like you’re drowning in data. You’re not alone.

Research firm IDC says you can expect the amount of information created annually to grow 44 times through 2020.

Both private and public sectors alike are wrestling with the “volume, variety and velocity of information,” said Teri Elniski of information solutions company EMC’s data computing products division

“With everyone and everyone leaving a digital footprint, there’s just a tsunami of information coming into an organization,” Elniski said.

Making sense of all that data will require some wild ideas. Information-solutions company EMC is launching a Data Hero Awards contest for people who are finding efficient ways to manage all that data. The contest recognizes individuals and organizations in six categories, including technology excellence in government, social services or education.

Awards will be announced at the EMC World Conference in May in Las Vegas.
