These are the stories Federal News Radio reporters are working on today.

  • A government shutdown is looming on the horizon again…it’s one of our top stories on Federal News Radio dot com this afternoon. The noise level inside agencies is getting louder…and a lot of that noise is aimed at Congress. Federal News Radio Senior Correspondent Mike Causey got some scathing analysis of Congress this week, and has it in his column today.
  • The Office of Personnel Management DID NOT tell the Energy Department to take back the pay raise the agency gave to some of its senior executives. Federal News Radio told you on Friday about 220 Energy SESers whose pay is getting cut. OPM says today, it wasn’t their idea. And they explained how these senior level employees got to where they are. Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller has the latest on the cancelled pay raises…and more on what the administration wants to do to strengthen the SES.
  • A piece of federal law known as the Nunn-McCurdy act is supposed to get the Pentagon to cancel or fix procurement programs that have out-of-control costs. But the Government Accountability Office says programs that get cancelled because of Nunn-McCurdy are few and far between. In fact, GAO only found one example. Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu has a full report.
