DoD bill allows military cyber activity

The White House says no to secret actions against terrorists online.

The fiscal 2012 Defense Department authorization bill says the Pentagon can conduct military activities in cyberspace, NextGov reports. This includes covert operations against foreign-based terrorists. The DoD would also be allowed to use cyber tactics to deflect cyberattacks.

White House officials say military operations in cyberspace are vital to national security, but they want Congress add some clarity to the bill.
