Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra is resigning. Kundra is the first Federal CIO. He is leaving the administration in August to serve as a joint fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

The Centers for Disease control and Prevention says furloughs are a very possible option for the near future. Each day of furloughs could save the agency $182,000. The Department of Health and Human Services is looking to make cuts program by program and is bracing for a double-digit budget cut.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives needs to make $80 million in cuts. The agency may have to cut 500 to 700 positions and is starting to consider buyouts and early retirements. ATF is currently in the midst of a hiring freeze.
