The Defense Department announced it is closing down the Defense Knowledge Online portal. The closure comes because the number of users lagged behind expectations, DoD said, according to a report on Defense Systems.

The online portal, which was modeled on an earlier Army-specific one, will shut down in the middle the next fiscal-year. In its place, the department will begin a shift toward the Enterprise Services Portal Branch.

The Pentagon said the latter aims to provide file sharing, access to other enterprise services and a marketplace for mobile apps.
