  • Federal unions want to know what will happen to government workers if Congress fails to raise the national debt ceiling soon. A coalition of 21 unions has sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget and the Treasury Department. In it, the coalition says feds are concerned that their pay, retirement plans, and programs may be slashed.
  • The Army is changing its IT policies and networks. Army Lt. Gen. Susan Lawrence says some policies that aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. The new policies are under consideration and would condense the current practices into two policies.
  • The Social Security Administration isn’t saying whether or not you’ll get a social security check if the government doesn’t raise the debt ceiling. The agency sent out a memo to employees telling them if people ask about their payment of Social Security or SSI checks due to concerns about the federal debt ceiling, tell them we don’t know.
  • You can Still get a raise during the hiring freeze. The Office of Personnel Management is telling managers raises might go through in special circumstances. GovExec reports OPM must be convinced that NOT giving a particular raise could cause severe recruitment or retention difficulties, or have an extremely negative impact on agency operations.
