  • Federal contractors might have to wait to get a paycheck if there’s no debt limit deal. Prime contractors are worried they’ll be in the middle of a squeeze – forced to pay subcontractors while their invoices to the government go unpaid. Contractor advocacy groups are telling their members to get their invoices in, right away.
  • The Homeland Security Department has a new Chief Human Capital Officer. Catherine Emerson has been selected to replace the retiring Jeff Neal. Gov Exec reports Emerson will be the first career CHCO at the agency – until now, a political appointee has held the position.
  • The Pentagon’s high-level mentoring program is taking a huge hit since new disclosure rules are in place. The number of retired generals DoD hired to serve as mentors and advise the military has dropped from 158 in 2009, down to 20. USA Today reports Army Brigadier General Steven Anderson says financial disclosure requirements have caused many former military leaders to leave the program.
