  • Veterans Affairs is sending out $430,000 to nearly 200 Family Caregivers of Veterans. The Caregivers will get an average of $1,600 a month. The amount of the payments is based on the condition of the veteran and the amount of care they require as well as the location where the veteran lives.
  • The Office of Personnel Management has started scanning employee records so that one day pensions can be calculated by computer. About three dozen OPM retirement staffers are digitizing records in an abandoned limestone mine in Pennsylvania. OPM’s associate director of retirement services Bill Zielinski told the Federal Times the initiative will be a mammoth effort.
  • The Government Printing Office, the National Technical Information Service and the Labor Department are providing access to current and archived wage determinations for federal service contracts in a permanent online database. The Federal Acquisition Regulation’s Wage Determination Online website provides a list of wage determinations issued by the Labor Department. The wage determinations include the original as well as all subsequent decisions on changes to wage rates to help federal contracting officers.
