  • The White House is telling agencies to cut support service contracts by 15 percent before October 1st. The reduction is expected to save 6 billion dollars in fiscal 2012. Agencies spent $40 billion dollars on management support services in 2010.
  • William Lynn is stepping down as deputy defense secretary. He’s worked for DOD for almost two decades. He’s planning to stay on the job, though, until somebody is chosen to take his place.
  • The Department of Homeland Security is revamping the way it protects U.S. ports and waterways. The Maritime Operations Coordination plan aims to reduce oversight redundancy and beef up information sharing. It focuses on the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
  • The House Appropriations committee wants some agencies to work with 6 percent less money then they had last year. The funding for programs in the bill is about 13 percent less then the Presidents request for the fiscal 2012 budget. In this bill the Government Accountability Office’s budget will take a $35 million cut.
