Reporters’ Roundup: Debt limit impact on feds and DoD’s clean energy push

Reporters\' Roundup.

These are the stories Federal News Radio reporters are working on today.

  • The defense industry has been in an uproar over the use of interim rules for new procurement regulations. Now the White House’s top procurement official says he is listening to the criticism. In an exclusive interview, Office of Federal Procurement Policy Administrator Dan Gordon spoke to Federal News Radio Executive Editor Jason Miller about the complaints from several large industry associations. They contend that the administration is increasingly using interim rules to change Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • There’s been a lot of noise about the debt limit – the different plans and the effect on the economy if it isn’t raised. Federal News Radio Senior Correspondent Mike Causey wrote about some of the possibilities in his column, which drew some comparisons between the fierce debate happening now and the similar atmosphere of rancor surrounding the almost-government shutdown in April.
  • The Defense Department and the Energy Department are starting two new programs designed to help move beyond petroleum-based fuels – both in buildings and in vehicles, Jared Serbu reports. The announcements build on an agreement the two departments signed last year to work together on energy innovation.
