  • Your agency’s 2013 budget request must cut at least 5 percent in discretionary spending compared with this year. OMB says agencies must also submit a version of their 2013 budgets that shows options for cutting at least an additional 5 percent, or a total of at least 10 percent. OMB also wants agencies to identify areas of potential economic growth.
  • The U.S. Postal Service wants to close 300 mail processing plants by the end of next year. USPS officials don’t know what plants they are going to close. Federal Times reports these shutdown will affect more then 30 thousand Postal Service employees.
  • The Interior Department is getting some advice on whether or not to close its assisted acquisition services offices. An inspector general report says assisted acquisition services may not be worth keeping around. Federal Computer Week reports the Interior is currently talking with management consultants about the future of assisted acquisition services.
