These are the stories Federal News Radio reporters are working on today.

  • Your agency’s budget for 2013 will be smaller, your TSP account is on a roller coaster ride, and your pay and benefits package is literally up for grabs, thanks to the deficit commission in Congress. So there are no “dog days” THIS August. Federal News Radio Senior Correspondent Mike Causey writes about the potential backlash from budget talks in his column.
  • Each agency has until Sept. 15 to submit 2-to-8 high-priority goals to the Office of Management and Budget. The goals are part of how you need to implement the Government Performance and Results Modernization Act. President Obama signed the bill into law in January. Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller joins us with details.
  • The Defense Department’s chief information officer has some new authority…as do other federal CIOs, thanks to an office of management budget memo issued earlier this month. But DoD’s CIO says she has no intention of managing the military services by edict…and the memo won’t change that. Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu has the story.
  • A new framework for evaluating the government’s top career folk will be rolled out by the end of September. Steve Shih is the deputy associate director for executive resources and employee development at the Office of Personnel Management. Shih tells Federal News Radio’s Emily Kopp the senior executive service’s new performance management system will bring uniformity to the process.
