VanRoekel kicked off what the administration hopes is a national dialogue on the use of mobile in government in a speech this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Tim Hoechst, the chief technology officer at Agilex, joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss the process and what he, and the broader IT contracting industry, would like to see.
“It feels like a natural progression of what the CIO’s office has been articulating over the last many months,” Hoechst said, “which is identifying those best practices in government that we want to share across agencies and not reinvent the wheel — focus on cost-savings, productivity and so on.”
The mobile strategy that VanRoekel announced and the national dialogue, is the “right approach,” Hoechst said. “But the question will be as this plan comes into focus: How much detail is there? How many standards are clearly defined? Are they enforceable? (Are) technology choices going to be left up to the individual organizations or suggested from the top?
Hoechst acknowledged there’s much still to be defined or “discovered,” as he put it. “But this is the process by which they’re going to discover all that.”
