It’s the end of an era for U.S. Navy carriers. The U.S.S. Enterprise was on hand for the Soviet blockade during the Cuban missile crisis. She flew thousands of sorties during the Vietnam War. And the Navy’s largest carrier was one of the first on scene during Operation Enduring Freedom.

This week, the Enterprise left Norfolk, Va., for her final deployment.

Rear Adm. Ted Carter, commander of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, spoke with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu from the Atlantic Ocean as the carrier heads off for one last set of missions in Europe and the Middle East.
