The Social Security Administration awarded CenturyLink a task order to provide data-networking services to more than 62,000 employees worldwide. Under the five-year contract worth $233 million, SSA hired CenturyLink through the Networx telecommunications contract run by the General Services Administration.
SSA’s award also means it will stay with CenturyLink as its telecommunications provider. The agency previously awarded a broad voice-services task order to Qwest, which CenturyLink acquired in 2008.
Under the new contract, CenturyLink will continue to provide similar services as they did under the previous contract, everything from video conferencing to technology to help with the backlog of disability case hearings.
Additionally, CenturyLink serves all data centers, program service centers and more than 1,500 field office locations. The global telecommunications company also will supply management and implementation support, as well as lifecycle engineering.
Diana Gowen, CenturyLink senior vice president and general manager, said the new task order will help SSA meet their mission through the use of up-to-date telecommunications services.
“The challenges facing SSA are daunting,” said Gowen in a press release. “We look forward to working with them to provide the data networking services they need to serve the American public.”
